10/20 (Sat.) 14:30 A Root│Taiwan│A group blending traditional Eastern instruments
and Western jazz
A Root is a group of professional musicians from Taiwan who play the sheng (a reed pipe instrument), ruan and liuqin (plucked string instruments), keyboard, double bass and percussion. With different artistic backgrounds and life experiences, they reunited in their hometown, Yilan, and began their career as a group. They link traditional instruments with the language of jazz, believes the beyond word aura of music is shared by the world, and the modern internationalization comes from the land. In 2017, they were invited by the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) to take part in the American Music Abroad program, which is co-sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and AIT. They performed with the Jonathan Scales Fourchestra (a jazz band) in Yilan, Taiwan, and were also chosen to perform at a live showcase event at the 2017 World Music Festival @ Taiwan.
