10/18(FRI.) 20:40 Hsieh Ming-yu & Pun Car Band│Taiwan
Hsieh Ming-yu is a highly experienced music producer, songwriter, and lyricist. After serving in the military, he got involved in the music industry and worked as a producer in Taipei for ten years, during which time he made over 2,000 songs. He returned to his hometown of Tainan in the year 2000, getting away from standardized commercial production, revitalizing himself with the slower pace of life in southern Taiwan, re-experiencing the warmth of the land, and making the music he wanted to. At such time, he dubbed himself the “Vagrant of Tainan.”
In 2005, he teamed up with other musicians in forming the Pun Car Band, playing at venues throughout Taiwan as well as doing charity performances at temples, nursing homes, and medical care centers. The band sings familiar Taiwanese folk songs with a magnetic depth of sound, at times spicing them up with new arrangements. They also write original songs. Hsieh has been nominated several times for Golden Melody Awards. In 2013, he won Best Hokkien Album and Best Hokkien Male Singer for his solo album Tainan. In 2017, he won Best Hokkien Male Singer for his album Chiu Nien.
